Joel is the customs and international trade leader. He previously served as the Head of the Department in charge of Customs and Foreign Exchange Regulation consulting at Mazars Cameroon and took overall responsibility in overseeing overall import and export advisory services to various companies in Africa (Oil & Gas, banking, mining, IT, Infrastructure, re-tail, healthcare, industries, environment etc.). During this period, he assisted large companies in the largest customs and foreign exchange audits and disputes with huge amounts of adjustments at stake which he successfully defended. Joel has more than 10 years of experience and gained extensive experience in dealing with revenue authorities regarding customs matters in Central Africa. As a result, Joel has developed specialized industry skills in exchange control and customs regulations in the extractive industry (Oil & Gas, Mining) as well as in the banking sector.

Joel is also the Secretary General of the Research Centre for the Promotion of Foreign Trade in Africa (“CADEX”) and the editor-in-chief of the Customs and Exchange Law Review in Africa whose goal is to promote foreign trade by bringing together a diverse group of legal scholars, businesspeople, diverse practitioners, students, and judges, for the discussion of pressing legal foreign trade issues.

Joel is also a research scholar at the Columbia Law School in New York City and a PhD student in International Law at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne (School of Law) currently conducting advanced legal research and writing a thesis in the areas of exchange control, customs duties, international trade, African Continental Free Trade Area. Joel earned an LLM in International Trade and Logistics (with a specialization in Applied Economics and Law) from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
